I’ve heard the question “What other writer would you want to be like?” used as a way to determine where you want to go with your writing career. I’ve decided my answer is Neil Gaiman. Not because he’s rich, or successful, or that he tells a great story. What I like about him is that he’s a creative. Ideas aren’t about just one medium or one form of expression. They can span multiple platforms and come at you from different angles.
At the 25Books Vegas conference I saw similar ideas from Michael Anderle with his plans for Opus X. He was exploring a new definition of publishing wide that means more than just books.
Last month the musician Lindsey Stirling released a new album, Artemis. Only it isn’t just an album; it’s the same concept but in reverse. The music has developed into a long form story, leading to comics and videos.
Step one is still to have a story, which brings us to the NaNoWriMo update. I have caught up with my word count. Right now I’m sitting in good shape with 42,533 words.
